What are embedded charts?

Embedded charts is a feature that lets you create charts from your connected data sources and use them in third-party platforms that supported embedded content.

Why would I use an embedded chart?

You would use the embedded chart feature if you wanted to:

  1. View your data inside platforms such as Notion, Canva, or Slides.com.

  2. Create custom dashboard views inside your own internal client management tools.

  3. Visualize a chart on your marketing pages (check out ours) or maybe your own CSV data visualized for a blog post.

Why are embedded charts better than screenshots?

With Sparrow's embedded chart feature, your charts will:

  1. Be interactive (Tooltips, enable/disable legend, responsive)

  2. Refresh daily with the most recent data

  3. Animate on load

How to create an embedded chart?

To create an embedded chart, you must first have connected a data source to your account. Once you've connected a data source you can navigate over to the embed tab where you will see the option to create your first chart.

By clicking the Create your first chart button, you'll see our chart designer pop up:

From this view, you can select which data sources you want to pull data from, what metrics to visualize, and configure the style and refresh rate of your data.

While all users can create as many embedded charts as they need, charts created by Free/Starter users will be branded with the Sparrow logo at the top right of the chart (we need to grow too!). Pro/Team users are able to remove our branding for white-labeled charts.

Using the chart

Once you finish designing your chart, you will be given a link for embedding the chart into your third-party platform.

Here's a demo chart you can test out:

While most platforms that support embedding will allow you to embed the chart with just the link, some platforms (such as your own website) will require you to wrap the link in an <iframe>:

<iframe src="https://sparrowch.art/charts/3fc5a62c-bfd2-42a0-999f-caf97e1f95f2/0a92aa70-569b-4fe5-a478-9f297d4c3e6e" name="Sparrow" scrolling="No" height="500px" width="100%" style="border: none;"></iframe>

We used this website to create the iframe code above

Updating the chart after creation

Even after embedding your chart, you can always go back and change the style or data inside the chart. Once saved, changes will be automatically refreshed and propagated to all the platforms you embedded your chart in (you might need to refresh the host platform to see the changes).
